Celebrating six years, the firm is recognized for excellence and prepares for a new chapter.
Local law firm Liddiard Law has won its first 2024 BurlingtonToday Reader Favourite award in the Estate Lawyers category. The firm, which is celebrating its sixth anniversary next year, is also making the move to a new office on Harvester Road in January.
Liddiard Law is a general practice firm, and founder Michael Liddiard says that there is often overlap between the different practice areas that they cover. A client may have an estate issue that needs real estate advice, or a client with a real estate issue may need family law advice.
Liddiard Law focuses on real estate, family law, wills, estates, and corporate law. While their knowledge base covers many aspects of law, the firm has a focus on being personalized, accessible, and approachable.
“Consumers will know the difference between going to a well-rounded lawyer, versus going to bigger offices and being bounced around from member to member,” says Michael. “With a smaller team you get transparency and oversight.”
When Michael first opened his practice, he felt that there were some gaps in service for consumers in Burlington. For a lot of clients he has assisted with estate work, he found that they wanted to receive advice as efficiently and clearly as possible, so they could know that they were on the right track.
“The thing about estate work is that for most estate executors, they’ve never had to be in that role before,” he says.
Because of this desire for clear information on a complex topic like estate law, Michael has noticed a big, positive response towards the educational content that he posts online. “There are a lot of people in this situation who can’t get information— it’s notoriously difficult, the way that estate law practice has been structured,” he says.
Michael believes in using tools to provide quicker, clearer, legal advice. He notes that in 2024, connecting with lawyers has never been easier. 60% of his clients only ever connect with him on their mobile devices. He encourages people to get in touch, saying that many clients come to him when they should have had a consultation weeks, months, or even years prior.
“You should not wait to try to connect with a lawyer. All the tools that you need to get legal advice is available on your smartphone,” says Michael.
In addition to being readily accessible via technology, Michael looks forward to serving clients from the firm’s new office. The location will have easy access to the highway, no matter where clients are coming from across the Halton Region. It also features ample parking and is fully accessible.
As the business grows, Michael finds purpose in knowing that the advice he gives brings families closer together.
“It helps build trust and transparency, even when difficult topics like money, death and taxes are involved.”
